[Marxism] thanks for your response to Wiesel on refugees

Thanks for your great column at Counterpunch today. I've been waiting for a 
good response to the Weasel's column.

Ironically, though, unless I missed it, you didn't mention the lines of his 
which most infuriated me:

"I will perhaps be told that when the Palestinians cried at the loss of their 
homes, few Israelis were moved. That's possible. But how many Israelis 
rejoiced?"

That's possible?! Possible?! In less than 30 words the entire Naqba, and every 
eviction and home demolition since then, gets a wave of the hand (like the one 
Ben-Gurion used to signal "drive them out"), as if almost 60 years of ethnic 
cleansing were some tree that might have fallen in some forest a continent away 
(which of course Saint Elie doesn't have to hear).

And how many Israelis rejoiced? I'll tell you how many: aside from the ones on 
the scene celebrating in their army mess tents after a battle, here's how many: 
every single Israeli who dances and cheers at an "Independence Day" 
celebration. They're cheering on the graves and destroyed homes of the 
Palestinian refugees. THAT'S how many.
