George Saunders asked that this be forwarded to the list, in response
to Yoshie F's concern about whether Cindy Sheehan has been quoted
accurately (or whatever his concern is).

Subject: What Mike ferner quoted from Cindy Sheehan

This is the only reference by Cindy S. to Israel/Palestine that Mike
Ferner quotes

"You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll
stop the terrorism," she exclaimed.

Some accuse her of saying her son "died for Israel." But Ferner
doesn't quote her as saying that.

On whether the quote is accurate --- send her an e-mail and ask her,
or send one to Mike Ferner. Or ask Veterans for Peace if they have a
recording of her speech at their convention two weeks ago.

As far as I can see, all she is saying --- and countless others have
said the same --- is that aggressive U.S. policies in the Middle East,
such as the invasion and occupation of Iraq and U.S. support for
Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, are the real causes of
the kind of terrorism that happened at the Twin Towers.

We could add: U.S. intervention in Lebanon in 1959 and for many years
after that (both overtly and covertly); the CIA coup that installed
the Shah's regime in Iran, a reign of cruelty in the interests of
Anglo-American oil that lasted from 1953 until the Iranian people
overthrew the Shah in 1979; U.S. support for harsh dictatorships in
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other Arab countries, etc.
