RE: [Marxism] Hawkish Democrats
How appropriate that the Democratic strategists hoping to out-warmonger
the GOP chicken hawks have resurrected the achievements of US President
Woodrow Wilson (1913-21), that admirer of Jefferson Davis who whooped
ol' Kaiser Bill.
The "big stick" policies of Teddy Roosevelt are associated with the
earlier exercise of US military and naval power in the western
hemisphere, but it was Wilson, who introduced the rhetoric of a
high-minded Crusade to extend Progressive values to a waiting world.
(H.L. Mencken referred to him as "the Archangel Woodrow.")
Wilson's achievements included misleading the US into World War One. In
November 1916, American voters reelected Wilson under the slogan "He
kept us out of war." In April 1917, Wilson insisted that we had no
choice but to go to war "to make the world safe for democracy."
When American citizens objected that the war would not make the world
safe for democracy--and would not be "a war to end all wars"--Wilson
added to his accomplishments the most oppressive domestic repression in
US history. His liberal Democratic Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer
went after German spies in the broadest sense--of central and eastern
Europeans generally, Bolsheviki, strikers, etc.
In the interest of fairness, it should be noted that Wilson's war did
not, in fact, end all wars or make the world "safe for democracy."
Democratic leaders today are actually telling us what want to do. Wrap
pompous quasi-religious lies around mass death and kicking the shit out
those who see through the lies.
...and there are "Marxists," who denounce those who won't vote
Democratic.
Solidarity!
