Re: [Marxism] Oppressed people of the world support Cuba: why doesn't SWP?

Interesting piece. I organised a film screening of The Revolution Will Not
Be Televised a few months ago on behalf of G8 Alternatives, a coalition set
up to mobilise against July's G8 Summit held in Scotland. I was persuaded by
comrades, SWPers to be sure, that Mike Gonzalez should come and speak at the
screening, as he was an authority on Latin America. He took the floor and
proceeded to talk about Venezuela and Bolivia as inspirations for
anti-capitalist
movements that are arising all over Latin America. I was astounded that he
failed to mention Cuba, for there is no doubt in my mind that without Cuba as
the original inspiration and example for others to follow there would not be
a Venezuela, etc. He began to denounce Cuba as state capitalist, Fidel as a
dictator, and blah, blah, blah. When I pointed out that Chavez is a close ally
of Fidel and the Cuban Revolution, Gonzalez attempted to describe the
relationship as an example of opportunism by the Cuban Government.

The (UK) SWP remind me very much of the ISO in the US, in that
organisationally they are very pro-active and effective but their politics
stink. They do
well with students and academics, but have singularly failed to connect with
or establish roots in the working class. Their analysis of Cuba, like the
ISO's, is ludicrous to be frank, and is to their great discredit.

Long live the Cuban Revolution.
