RE: [Marxism] New Gramsci scholarship?
The system is in a real paradox of its own making. They yelp and whine
about national security continually, but their licensing of unregulated
corporate greed shaped a system of airport security lax enough to permit
the September 11 attacks.
In the same way, it created the open sexual content that flourishes in
the culture, so long as it is commercialized. The gratuitous baring of
the boobs is outrageous, but if it's put on a commercial basis, that's
between the buyer and the seller. They can blame the legacy of the open
1960s, but it's really "Capitalism Gone Wild." The cultural DNA shows
that Paris Hilton is the granddaughter of Ronald Reagan and Phyllis
Schlafly.
If profit is the most important traditional American value, then
peddling herbal solutions to grow your penis are no more objectionable
than Miss Cleo the TV psychic or eHarmony's offer to find you a mate
without your ever having to discomfort yourself by encountering persons
not like you and risking something like personal growth.
Capitalism stinks, but it hasn't found any way not to stink
consistently....
Solidarity!
