Re: [Marxism] quick comment re the 'Venezuelan Left' coming together
I want to agree with Michael's characterization of the ISO's position as
arrogant and ignorant. I'm particularly worried by the interview at the bottom
of the article, which they say is from a June collection and perhaps was given
way before then. I suspect that Chirino would not say today:
"Therefore, I think that [Chávez?s] project has a short lifespan."
Or perhaps the interview was chopped and/or taken out of context.
Clearly Michael and David's interpretation of the party as working WITH Chavez
to build the revolution and working WITH him in the next steps of pushing the
bourgeoisie out of power are more accurate and preferable to the ISO's
sectarian pomposity.
P.S. Even though Michael is probably right on a couple factual errors made by
Dave, I would encourage comrades to re-read what Dave said about the different
currents: he is extremely well-informed about them and makes considered
judgments about their importance (or lack thereof) and intentions.
Joaquin's attacks on some wings of ancient Latin American Trotskyism must be
seen in the context of support given today by more orthodox Trotskyists
(including the Grant/Woods current, SA and Labor Standard, the USec for all its
weaknesses, etc.). I happened to pick up a copy of Hansen's Dynamics of the
Cuban Revolution today and that genuine Trotskyist approach never went out of
style.
(Louis' ad hominem (ad party-nem?) attacks are irrelevant at worst and
red-baiting at worst.)
P.S. Juno has a new text editor so let me know if it's still not wrapping
around.
