[Marxism] Re: The pom-pom treatment
>But the real question is how to assess figures such as Gerry Adams,
Lula,
Thabo Mbeki, etc. We can't make a judgement based on whether they look
favorably on the Cuban revolution since there are many liberals who do
so
as well. Even James Wolfensohn, the former president of the World Bank,
wrote very positively about Cuba.
And the same would apply double for judging the regimes in the Middle
East based on their statements about Palestine. All Arab parties are
for an independent Palestinian state, against the state of Israel, and
of course for the right of return under whatever state is formed.
That does mean that any of them have a strategy to accomplish this. In
fact, if they did, there wouldn't be an Al Qaeda as we know it.
Apply similar thinking to Latin America, it is not helpful to evaluate
the socialist revolutionary character of Latin American organizations,
regimes, and individuals based on their verbal support or defense of
Cuba.
