Re: [Marxism] good points Paddy

Very right. Unfortunately, there are many

Brad, since you are a newcomer to Marxmail, it might be useful to explain
the role of the list. The list is not some kind of cyber-duma where members
of self-declared vanguard parties compete with each other as to who is more
revolutionary. In fact it was set up as an alternative to the
small-proprietorship mentality of the traditional "Marxist-Leninist" left.

This is not to say that members and supporters of such parties are not
welcome, only that they are expected to adapt to the list ecology rather
than our nearly 800 subscribers, most of whom do not belong to such
parties, adapting to them.

For example, I have no idea whether Greg Dunkel is a member of the Workers
World Party or not, but he definitely seems to identify with them. You
never hear him telling the list about how exciting an event the WWP had
just staged. He limits himself to making sharp Marxist commentaries on
current events. Here's something he wrote about Haiti once, a topic that he
frequently refers to:

We also have *many* DSP members from Australia on the list, but they almost
never talk about their party except when it is necessary to defend
themselves from Bob Gould's astute but curmudgeonly assaults. The other day
we read Stuart Munckton's interesting analysis of Venezuela here. There was
no reference to the DSP.

The best thing that CP members can do to win people to their point of view
is to write penetrating analyses of world events and not engage in
shameless self-promotion.
