    I agree with David Altman's comment on this "correction."  It is one thing 
for National Guard troops about to go into Iraq to question Rumsfeld about 
armor for Humvees.  In this case Fred Feldman's logic is applicable, this 
questioning can lead toward opposition to the war later on by the troops 
themselves.  It's another thing for the editors of The Militant sitting in NY, 
to call for better body armor, rather than calling for immediate withdrawal of 
U.S. troops.  This is indeed "bending to social patriotism."
     I apologize for the hearsay, but my closest friends are ex-members who are 
supporters of the SWP, and I am told there is supposedly a somewhat broader 
"correction" put forth by Barnes at their Oberlin convention last month to the 
effect of "opposing the imperialists wherever they are fighting."  What a 
concept, eh?  We'll see what this means in the concrete, for example around 
Sept. 24.  I don't expect much.
