[Marxism] Re: People Power in the Philippines

Minor correction: the party-list AKBAYAN is from what I can tell an
alliance of NGO and social-democratic groups, including BISIG (probably
the most left group), but is not really a "splinter" of the CPP despite
some of its leading figures having been in the CPP in the 1980s.

The real big splits in the CPP happened in the early 1990s. The main
groups went in the direction of rejecting Stalinism/Maoism while
retaining a commitment to Leninism. Some went to the NGO-social
democratic left (and may have ended up in AKBAYAN, although I don't know
for sure). The revolutionary/Leninist groups split into several
programmatic factions of which the biggest (and best known) are probably
the PMP (Workers' Party of the Philippines) and RPM (Revolutionary
Workers' Party). The PMP website is at
<http://manggagawangpilipino.tripod.com/>.

Some of the best background reading on the 1990s splits in the CPP is
published in LINKS magazine <http://www.dsp.org.au/links/> but
unfortunately the earlier articles are unavailable online at this stage.
