The ISO has written some very good articles on the anti-war movement,
including the Iraqi labor tour which just took place. Some people on this list
ought to read what they wrote, so they can correct their erroneous views on how
progressive that tour was. However, there is no reason to think the ISO is going
to amount to any kind of revolutionary party. The Cuban revolution and Fidel
Castro are justifiably respected by progressive people the world over,
especially in the Third World. The ISO, on the other hand, calls for the
overthrowof the Cuban government, and there is no reason whatsoever to think
they are going to change that view. That fact itself is sufficient to kill
anychance the ISO will ever become any kind of revolutionary organization
enjoying the respect of the masses of progressive and workingpeople. There is
every reason to think the ISO's counterrevolutionary attitude towards the
socialist revolution in Cuba will be the basis for theiranalysis of every new
socialist revolution. If Venezuela develops into a socialist revolution, the
ISO will adopt the same attitude towards it asit does towards Cuba. New
socialist revolutions are going to make the ISO look like the Socialist Labor
Party. Stan Smith
