Secretary General Resigns
Brazilian Ruling Party Secretary General Resigns

Rio de Janeiro, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's ruling
Workers Party (PT) secretary general Silvio Pereira filed
his resignation on Monday, as he is to be subject to
Congress-proposed investigations for corruption.

Pereira has been accused of bribing parliamentarians, a
charge he shares with PT president Jose Genoino, the party
treasurer Delubio Soares and former minister of the
presidency Jose Dirceu.

He sent a letter to the PT on Monday asking for "leave" for
an undetermined time, sources from the party told the
press.

His resignation comes amid strong pressures within Latin
America's largest left-wing party for top leaders to quit.

No other resignation has been announced so far, but rumours
are circulating that the party treasurer might follow suit.
