The SWP is not at all "moribund" as some would imagine. Its role is
to try to discourage and demoralize those anti-war forces who today
take action against the war drive. Slandering anti-war leaders such
as George Galloway against whom they choose to focuse their shrill
rhetorical fire, slandering anti-war artistic figures like Michael Moore
as being "pro-war", slandering revolutionary leaders such as President
Chavez of Venezuela as "bonapartist", reviling the Iraqi resistance as
remnants of Saddam Hussein's government - exactly what the Bush
administration calls the Iraqi resistance - THE MILITANT has chosen
the political space it chooses to occupy evidently with deliberation.

While the SWP doesn't occupy direct influence on the anti-war move-
ment, since it is politically opposed to the anti-war movement, it does
have a role for which it has self-selected itself. That role is one which
is at the opposite side of the political spectum as its former presence,
the one reflected in Fred Halstead's OUT NOW, which documented the
movement against the Vietnam War in the Sixties and Seventies, and
the role which the SWP and THE MILITANT tried to play during that
period. Their self-selected role is to divide, discourage and ultimately
to demoralize those who wish to build broad united activits against
the US occupation of Iraq.

The American SWP is a moribund organization that exercises ZERO
influence on the antiwar movement. They remind me of the Workers
League organizing classes on dialectics in 1969 as the most important
way to oppose the war in Vietnam. They are a sideshow, like the geek
