Re: [Marxism] RESPECT direction after the election

Were there any other efforts to attack Galloway from the
"left"? I'd be curious and grateful to learn. They didn't
get any traction when the vote came down, but perhaps
they had some resonance among ordinary ultralefts?

There have been some vicious attacks on Galloway from people who purport
to be leftists - particularly people I would call "Islamophobes", who
accuse Galloway and RESPECT of pandering to Islamic communalism. As a
matter of fact I consider this accusation to be bullshit although it is
true that RESPECT has formed links with elements within teh Muslin
community. (A historic American parallel might be calling the Civil
Rights Movement communalist because it had prominent Black clergymen
within it, although the parallel isn't exact.)

Most prominent among the organised groups is the Alliance for Workers
Liberty, which caps it all by being blatantly pro-Israel - they argue
that opposition to Zionism is per se anti-semitism. Although they
ostensibly opposed the war their opposition to Islam is such that they
are reject the Iraqi resistance and are thus objectively lining up with
US and British imperialism, albeit somewhat shame-facedly.
