[Marxism] Fidel Castro Calls Demonstration on Friday Evening

(Here are six short reports on what was discussed on
Cuba's Mesa Redonda broadcast Thursday. Fidel said
Friday night he will reveal "a little surprise for
the US" at Friday's demonstration. It'll be a small
one with "only" one hundred thousand people invited.")

Fidel Castro Calls Demonstration on Friday Evening

Havana, May 19 (AIN) Cuban President Fidel Castro called on
the Cuban people to participate in a demonstration on
Friday in Havana where he will disclose important
information on Cuba's struggle against terrorism.

Some 100,000 Havana citizens will gather at 6:00 pm Friday
at the site where Fidel Castro will comment on recently
declassified documents specially related to the case of
Luis Posada Carriles.

At the end of a special roundtable discussion aired on
Cuban radio and television Thursday, President Castro said
that national and international public will be provided
very important information revealing the "antecedents of
our struggle against terrorism."

"It is going to be a little surprise for the US," said
Fidel who added that "I am not proposing the gathering of
one million or one million and a half participants; we will
gather that number of people when it's necessary."

President Castro said that the upcoming rally will be aimed
at crimes committed by the Miami mafia and the US
government.

Fidel Castro insists that Arrest of Posada Carriles was a
Farce

Havana, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban president Fidel Castro
insisted today that the arrest of notorious terrorist Luis
Posada Carriles in the United Status last Tuesday was a
farce.

Detention of Posada Carriles was rigged between the US
government and anti Cuban individuals based in Miami,
denounced the head of state during a radio TV broadcast on
occasion of the 110th anniversary of Cuban nacional hero
Jose Marti´s death (1853-1895).

Fidel Castro reiterated his denounce that the White House
has protected this individual, responsible for the bombing
in flight of a Cuban civil plane with 73 passengers on
board in 1976 and other crimes.

His arrest, after a murky press conference offered by
Posada Carriles, was a plan to protect him, a comedy, a
farce, affirmed the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Of course, he said, they had no alternative, but it was a
"gross blunder". Fidel Castro assured that Cuba will not
rest in its struggle until justice is served and the
notorious terrorist is brought to trial for all his crimes
against the Caribbean island and other countries throughout
the world.

I am sure, he underlined, that world public opinion will
support justice and be against Washington´s protection of
Posada Carriles.

The world will not remain indifferent to this case, he
added.

Fidel Castro remembered that the known terrorist was
related to the assassination of former Chilean foreign
minister Orlando Letelier 29 years ago, while the US
government kept supporting him and giving him refuge even
knowing he was responsible for that and other crimes.

Washington chose today to charge terrorist Luis Posada
Carriles for illegal entry to the country and he announced
his case will be solved in an audience next June 13.

A communiqué from the Office of Inmigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) said Posada Carriles will continue to be
detained in a Texas jail.

Agents of the Home Security Department arrested Posada
Carriles in Miami, where he was hiding after entering the
country over two months ago.

Hours before his arrest, the criminal confirmed his request
for political asylum in the United States, in spite of
which the White House had denied any knowledge that the
terrorist was hiding out in the southern state.

Cuban President Says International Terrorist Should Not
Leave the US

Havana, May 19 (AIN) Cuban President Fidel Castro said that
international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles should not
escape justice for acting in complicity with the rightwing
Cuban-American organizations in Miami, as the US government
currently protects him.

Speaking Thursday in Havana, the Cuban leader reiterated
that Venezuela is the appropriate country to judge the
assassin, saying that all of the international media could
attend what would be an open trial in which all of those
implicated would be revealed.

He added that we must continue revealing the US
government's manoeuvres, because international opinion is
opposed and is not indifferent to the situation.

The leader of the Revolution spoke during a special
roundtable at Havana's Karl Marx Theater on the occasion of
the 110th anniversary of the death in combat of Cuba's
national hero Jose Marti.

Amidst the Cuban people's "battle against terrorism in
support of justice and truth," the special round table was
attended by the organizers of the massive march held
Tuesday in Havana, representatives of political and
grassroots organizations, as well as government, armed
forces and Interior Ministry officials, among others.

During the program, panellists explained that terrorist
Luis Posada Carriles was one of the authors of the bombing
of a Cubana airliner on October 6, 1976 that killed all 73
passengers on board. He is currently in jail in El Paso,
Texas waiting for a response from the US Immigration and
Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).

News media revealed on Thursday that the US government
accused Posada Carriles of illegally entering the country
and ICE reported that on June 13 the confessed
international terrorist would have to appear before a judge
hearing the case.

On May 13, the Venezuelan government officially requested
the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. He escaped from a
Caracas prison in 1985, where he was being held under
charges for the Cubana airliner bombing. The roundtable
panellists recalled that Venezuelan Vice President Jose
Vicente Rangel told the press that if President George W.
Bush does not comply with the extradition request,
Washington will be discredited before the world for its
double standard in the war on terrorism.

Other information related that Ora di Celmo, mother of the
young Italian tourist Fabio di Celmo who fell victim to a
1997 bombing of a Havana hotel ordered by Posada Carriles,
urged from Rome on Thursday that Posada Carriles be tried
and pay for his crime.

It was revealed that Mexican Secretary of Government
Santiago Creel admitted that Luis Posada Carriles passed
through that country before illegally entering Miami; he
said that Mexican authorities have begun an investigation
of the incident.

The Cuban president pointed out that if Mexico recognized
Posada Carriles passed through Mexico, it would be worth
while to ask the Mexican authorities where he crossed and
find out about the role of the the ship "Santrini." Fidel
recalled that the Mexican daily "Por Esto!" reported on the
international terrorist's crossing the Mexican border into
Belize, from where he went to Cancun. The paper revealed
how the ship "Santrini," belonging to rightwing Cuban
American Santiago Alvarez, was used to smuggle Posada into
the United States.

Cuban President Fidel Castro pointed out that he was not
accusing the Mexican government of complicity in the
affair, but was requesting information, noting that to
transport and aid a terrorist entering the US is a crime in
that country which calls for sentences of up to 35 years in
prison.

Fidel added that now Washington wants to protect Posada
Carriles after picking him up at his home, whereas
previously the White House denied knowing anything of his
whereabouts for the past two months. Prior to his arrest,
Posada organized a press conference to deny responsibility
for the bombing of the Cubana airliner in 1976.

The Cuban head of state reiterated that this is all a
farce, commenting that there were no representatives of any
of the mass media at the press conference because Santiago
Alvarez restricted the questions only to those related to
the Cubana airliner.

Fidel stressed that it was arranged, because the US
government could not wait anymore. It was, said the Cuban
leader, a ridiculous situation for the spokespersons
because Washington promised the assassin that he could deny
his participation in the bombing of the airliner.

He recalled the words of Posada Carriles himself, who to
evade any responsibility characterized the sabotage of the
civilian plan as an "abominable event." Fidel emphasized
that his vocabulary does not go well with a terrorist,
affirming that this was what he was counseled to say.

During another moment of the roundtable, the Cuban head of
state compared the treatment received of Luis Posada
Carriles during his arrest with that of five Cuban
political prisoners being held in the United States for
fighting against terrorism.

Cuban President Fidel Castro added that at any moment there
may well be very interesting news related to the "Cuban
Five."

Washington Using Legal Tools to Protect Posada Carriles

Havana, May 19 (AIN) The president of the Cuban parliament
warned that Washington intends to present Posada Carriles
as the case of an "undocumented alien" instead of the
international terrorist that he is.

During a round table discussion Thursday in Havana, Ricardo
Alarcon said "we are facing a maneuver to protect terrorist
Posada Carriles."

The US Immigration and Customs Control agency announced
that Posada Carriles had been jailed in an immigrant in El
Paso, Texas until a hearing is held on June 13. At that
time a decision will be made on the case.

Alarcon asked how many thousands of undocumented people are
forcibly pushed out of the US every single day and how many
of them have the privilege of having a hearing.

What is happening is that this "undocumented alien" is a
friend of the Bush family, said Alarcon, who asked where
the US government's anti-terrorist strategy is. "Where is
it's commitment to fight terror?" he pondered.

Experts agreed that Washington intends to use the same
strategy employed in the case of Orlando Bosh, who was
jailed for two years on migratory charges and later
pardoned by former US President George H. Bush.

However, some twenty US congressmen sent a letter to US
President George Bush opposed to granting Posada Carriles
asylum in the United States.

In their letter, the US lawmakers called on Bush to
extradite the Cuban-born terrorist to Venezuela and
reminded their president of his own September 2001
statements where he said those who harbor terrorists or
support terrorism should be considered terrorists as well.

Those congresspeople insist that Posada Carriles be sent to
Venezuela, where he will have to face justice in the names
of the innocent victims of his actions.

Fidel Castro Says the US Empire Must be Buried With the
Truth

Havana, May 19 (AIN) Referring to its role in world
terrorism, Cuban President Fidel Castro said that "we must
bury the US Empire with the truth."

Fidel insisted on the need to reveal all that is involved
with terrorists and their US-backed rightwing, as he spoke
in a special roundtable discussion at Havana's Karl Marx
Theater on Thursday in Havana.

"We must denounce them, I want to see how they will defend
themselves in any court and with all the opportunities we
have to expose them," referring to statements made by Luis
Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch on their terrorist
activities against Cuba.

The head of state read fragments of the book "We Placed the
Bomb and So What?" by Venezuelan journalist Alicia Herrera.
In it, Bosch openly admits to his participation - alongside
his friend Posada Carriles - in the bombing of a Cubana
airliner on October 6, 1976. All 73 passengers onboard were
killed in the attack.

"Communism is not destroyed with words, but with war," said
Orlando Bosch, as he affirmed that he was capable of
blowing up the plane carrying communists and that he would
continue to do so.

Fidel Castro emphasized that Bosch has not denied his
participation in those terrorist acts; he has justified
them, as well as Posada Carriles who has glorified their
roles as terrorists and their responsibilities in the
bombing of Havana hotels in 1997 in which an Italian
tourist, Fabio di Celmo, was killed and 10 people wounded.

The Cuban leader also recalled Operation Condor, carried
out by South American dictatorships in the 1970's and the
deaths of Orlando Letelier and Carlos Prats, renowned
figures in the government of constitutionally elected
President Salvador Allende, who was killed by Augusto
Pinochet.

We must denounce the participation that the CIA had through
its second chief, General Vernon Walters and others, as
well as the role of the Cuban-American terrorists and their
mercenaries, said the Cuban president.

He urged that the documentation, materials and existing
proof be assembled, translated and sent out to the world.
"We must have the world know about them and denounce them,"
insisted Fidel, as he added that this is the battle of
ideas that must be won everywhere.

Cuba Asks Mexico to Explain Terrorist's Transit Through
Country

Havana, May 19 (AIN) Cuban President Fidel Castro requested
Mexican authorities explain the passage of known terrorist
Posada Carriles through that nation on his way to the
United States.

During a round table discussion held Thursday evening at
Havana's Karl Marx Theater - attended by thousands of
representatives of the Cuban grass roots, governmental and
political organizations - Fidel Castro requested more
information on Posada Carriles' route to the United States
and his using Mexico for that purpose.

Following up on information revealed by journalist Arleen
Rodriguez - that Mexican authorities had admitted that
Posada Carriles had been in Mexico prior to his illegal
entry into the US - Fidel Castro noted that Mexico had not
initially admitted that fact. Earlier in the month Mexican
officials denied having any knowledge of Posada's
whereabouts. "So why are they admitting it now?" posed the
Cuban leader.

While Cuba has never accused the Mexican government of
complicity in the Posada affair, President Castro said Cuba
is now requesting an investigation into the passage through
that nation by the notorious international crime figure. We
will now ask again, since we need details on this event -
how did he managed to use Mexico to get to the States, who
helped him, did he use a boat or did he cross the border by
land, questioned Fidel.

At the beginning of the roundtable discussion, which was
aired on Cuban national radio and television, panellists
explained that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement
agency (ICE) issued a declaration on Thursday accusing
Posada Carriles of having illegally entered the US.

The document explains that the detainee has no right to
bail and that a decision on his case will be made during a
hearing scheduled for June 13. The documents reveal that
Posada arrived in the US in mid-March from Mexico and that
he will remain in jailed in El Paso, Texas until the
hearing takes place.

Many media outlets around the world echoed the statements
of the Cuban president on Wednesday renouncing to Cuba's
legitimate right to request the extradition of Posada
Carriles and reiterating the island's demand that he be
transferred to Venezuela to be tried in that South American
nation.

Thursday's roundtable took place on the occasion of the 110
anniversary of the death in combat of Cuba's National Hero
Jose Martí.

Participants also included the president of the Cuban
Parliament Ricardo Alarcon, Youth Communist League leaders,
representatives of the Pioneer Children's Organization, and
those journalists who usually take part in the TV
news-commentary program.
