EMERGENCY APPEAL AGAINST REACTIONARY ANTI-CUBAN TERRORIST SEEKING ASYLUM IN US!



On May 17th 2005, over one million Cubans joined on the streets of Havana to 
demand ?Down with Terrorism!? This huge march came at a time when the people of 
Cuba are putting increasing amounts of pressure on the US government to expose 
the contradictions in their supposed fight against terrorism.



Their fight is specifically aimed at Luis Posada Carriles, an anti-Cuban 
terrorist who was formerly on CIA payroll and is currently seeking asylum in 
the United States. Cuba?s case against Posada is solid, and together with 
Venezuela the two countries are demanding that Posada be extradited to 
Venezuela where he previously escaped from prison while awaiting trial. Posada 
has not only been convicted of attempting to assassinate Fidel Castro, he has 
also admitted his role in the string of bombings that took place at tourist 
locations throughout Cuba in 1997. Newly declassified CIA and FBI documents 
also revealed Posada?s heavy involvement in the planning of the bombing of a 
Cubana Airlines flight in 1976, which killed all 73 passengers on board.



Despite this pressure the US government is continuing to ignore the issue. 
Further proof of their hypocrisy is shown in the case of the Cuban 5, five 
Cubans who went to the US to investigate anti-Cuban terrorist groups in Miami, 
who were imprisoned with sentences ranging from 15 years to double life. This 
is at the same time that a genuine terrorist like Posada is reported to be 
currently enjoying a relaxing stay in Miami.  At the May 17th march against 
terrorism Fidel Castro said, ?The current US President has tolerated the 
presence of Posada Carriles on US soil for weeks in what constitutes a flagrant 
violation of that country?s own laws by those with the highest responsibility 
for protecting the US people from terrorist attacks? Never before have people 
behaved with so much dishonesty and hypocrisy.?



On May 14th, in response to the demands put forward by Cuba and Venezuela, 
along with other organizations internationally, Vancouver Communities in 
Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) took up the call with a petition demanding: ?No 
Asylum for Luis Posada Carriles! Defend Cuba Against Terrorist Attacks! Honour 
the Extradition Demand of Venezuela!?

DEFEND CUBA AGAINST TERRORIST ATTACKS!
HONOR THE EXTRADITION DEMAND OF VENEZUELA!


US President George W. Bush and the US Congress:



Luis Posada Carriles is an admitted anti-Cuba terrorist. As a former CIA 
operative, he received training from the US Army at Fort Benning, Georgia in 
1963. His long terrorist résumé includes a conviction for attempting to 
assassinate Cuban President Fidel Castro in Panama using explosives, and, by 
his own admission, a string of bombings at tourist spots in Cuba in 1997, which 
killed an Italian tourist and wounded 11 other people.



Additionally, recently declassified CIA and FBI documents reveal that he was 
heavily involved in planning the bombing of a Cubana Airlines passenger flight 
in 1976 that killed all 73 passengers on board. These are just a few items on a 
very long list of attacks Carriles has organized or carried out.



Posada came to the US sometime in late March or early April 2005, and is 
seeking asylum. He is only one terrorist in a whole line of anti-Cuba 
terrorists that have been backed by the US government. The hypocrisy of the US 
government?s ?war on terrorism? and ?anti-terrorist? policies are clearly 
exposed as lies by their support of Posada. The Cuban Five (five Cubans who 
came to the US to gather information about anti-Cuba terrorist groups operating 
freely in the US to prevent terrorist attacks on Cuba) were imprisoned by the 
US administration with sentences ranging from 15 years to double life. Yet, a 
genuine terrorist like Posada walks freely in the US. Venezuela has formally 
filed an extradition request for Posada (Posada escaped from a prison in 
Venezuela while awaiting trial for bombing the Cubana Airlines flight), and 
Cuba has also requested that he be extradited to Venezuela.



We, the undersigned demand that this confessed and convicted terrorist must not 
be granted asylum by the US government and must be extradited to Venezuela.
