Re:[Marxism] Perfect storm?
Everything you need to know about the weakness of bourgeois political
economy, and the inherent incapability of left business observers to
grasp the real content of capitalism, is summed up in the final
statement of this article: "Besides, adds Jeffrey Frankel, "some of us
have been warning of this hard-landing scenario for more than 20 years."
Exactly. For twenty years the perfect storm has been forecast as
arriving tomorrow and the day after tomorrow no matter what the
circumstances of the expropriation of value and the realization of
profit. Makes it meaningless, no?
It's like predicting the collapse of the stock market everyday for 70
years and then when, and if, it happens, jumping up and saying Aha! I
told you so.
Or like predicting, may I be so bold, the Hubbert Peak in oil
production-- it was in 1985, I mean 95, make that 2000, sorry I meant
2003, no 04, 05, and definitely 06.
This, catastrophe theorizing, is nothing but the complementary opposite
to that other axis of the bourgeoisie's "new" political economy-- "the
end of the business cyle," expansion without end, amen. Both, gloom and
doom and rosy skies are the limit theorizing, are simply manifestation
of those twin pillars of the free market, fear and greed.
For Marx, "crisis" is exactly that, critical, vital, to the maintenance
and reproduction of capital.
