Re: [Marxism] Boycotting Israel academy

A smear campaign has been launched against the sponsor of the AUT motion,
Sue Blackwell, by the Jerusalem Post
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1114913918708&p=1111893688901
) , after delving through all the links on her website and uncovering some
anti-semitic articles buried deep in some of the websites she links to.
Her site ( www.sue.be ) is very worth looking at - she has actually now
removed the few dodgy links (e.g. that to the jazz saxophonist,
Israeli-born Gilad Atzmon, whose pathological anti-Zionism does indeed
seem to stray into anti-semitic territory), the full nature of which she
no doubt hadn't completely realised at first.

Solidarity,
Ian

I've been battling out these issues on the Crooked Timber blog, which has
taken up both the academic boycott and the "boycott" of the Israeli Mogen
David ambulance corps. It has been alleged that the International Red
Cross/Red Crescent is boycotting Israel because they will not give official
status to the Israeli 6-pointed star. It turned out that the issue was far
more complex and involved protocols around the Geneva conference, etc. It
also turned out that the American Red Cross is driving the campaign against
the IRCRC since the global body has called attention to the fact that
Palestinian ambulances have been shot up by the IDF.

With respect to Atzmon, I might be wrong but it seems that there is some
controversy around an article titled "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" on
his website. But if you read the article, it is not a claim that the book
is legitimate but is just an attack on Zionism. In any case, if it gets in
the way of the boycott, Sue Blackwell was well advised to drop the link.
