While most Trotskyists supported Iran over Iraq, during the war between those 
two countries, most did NOT support Khomeni. The majority in the US Socialist 
Workers Party, who did so, were a minority in the world Trotskyist movement. In 
Iran at that time were three Trotskyist groups, whose initials in Farsi were 
the HKE, HKS and HKW. The HKE captitulated to Khomeni's regime to the point of 
dropping Socialism from their platform in the mid 1980's. The HKS oppossed 
Khomeni, and the Islamic Revolutionary Party. I don't know much about the HKW. 
All three sections were recognized by the United Secretaritat (USEC) of the 
Fourth International who seemed to have the perspective of "create one, two, 
three, many USEC sections" in every country.

Khomeni supporters in the SWP/US denied that they "supported Khomeni". They 
just oppossed any Iranians who did so. Nearly all who were expelled or left the 
SWP, 1981-84, oppossed support of the Islamic regime in Iraq. It's important to 
note that Trotskyists who were anti-Khomeni, did have the postition of 
supporting Iran against any attacks by US imperialism.
