For a gloriously sympathetic reference to Saladin, see Dante, _Hell_,
Canto IV, the limbo of unbaptized infants & virtuous pagans. Saladin
stands out there because all the others lived before xtianity:

Lucrece, Corneiia, Julia, Marcia four
Together, and by himself the Saladin.
