Actually no, since I posted I found it - it was "Red Scare - An Oral
History" by Griffin Fariello (I was wrong about the clever title). Which,
although I read it a few years ago, I remember well enough to highly
recommend it. As you can tell from the title, it's a series of oral
histories of mostly "regular people" who were affected by the witchhunts.
