Detroit Public Meeting on the Draft and the War April 23

Activists from throughout southeastern Michigan are invited
to attend a public meeting on the current war in Iraq and
Afghanistan and the need to curb the draft, both economic and
the selective service. The reimposition of the draft, which
could be put into place at any time, is a threat to the
people of the United States and the world.

This event will be held at the Detroit First Unitarian
Universalist Church located on Forest and Cass avenue in the
University Cultural District near the Wayne State University
campus, from 2:00-5:00 p.m.. The keynote speaker will be
Julie Fry of New York City who attended the April 16 national
conference against the draft and the war in that city.  Fry
will make a presentation on the conference and the current
struggle to stop the draft before it starts.

There will be a panel on the impact of current military
policy on youth and the economy.  Open discussions will be
held on how to strengthen the movement against war and the
draft.

This event is co-sponsored by the Michigan Emergency
Committee Against War & Injustice(MECAWI) and Finding
Alternatives to Military Enlistment(FAME).  Admission is free
and open to the general public.
