Re: [Marxism] Home Ownership During the UPS Strike of '97

How can the labor movement progress when the
rank and file are afraid of losing their materialist
possessions in the wake of a labor strike?

You mean the hard-earned home that represents but a fraction of the surplus
value they generate?

What about corrupt, top heavy union bureaucracies that spend money that
would be better spent in creating huge strike funds that allow for home
payments during strikes, or even creative financial leverage that allows
below market price finacing via megaloans for joint union-worker ownership
of homes, including the development of a cooperative housing structure?

To blame workers for worrying about whatever little crumbs they have been
able to obtain is something only someone in a position of privilege would
express.

It's time the working class sacrificed some of their
materialist possessions for the greater good of the
struggle.

I also think it is time academics are willing to forclose juicy book
royalties and speaker's fees in order to spread the word for the greater
good of the struggle. They should also foreclose some of their materialist
possesions, such as tenured posts.

I am being ironic, just in case.

sks
