[Marxism] Re: Comment on Barry Sheppard's book

On the University of Pennsylvania campus in 1963, we (the Student
Peace Union led by people attracted to the YSA) started holding campus
rallies against the war in 2963. They weren't really rallies, but
teach-ins for the crowds of often quite hostile students who we would
harangue about the war. Sometimes hundreds would gather. Sometimes it
got tense.

But the first NATIONAL demonstration against the war was the May 2,
1964, in New York City initiated by Progressive Labor. That's right,
the first national demo had about 800 people (max) and we all thought it
was great.

Probably by now every group has some recollection of being the first
to demonstrate against the war. Eventually the date of the first
demonstration will be pushed back by the competition to the late 14th
century, and we'll all be denouncing Barbara Tuchman for not reporting
it.

I never heard of the demonstration of 30 held by PL as its claim to be
first. Despite Carlos' suggestion, I doubt the SWP abstained from it
because of their preoccupation with a Cuba debate. Most likely the SWP
wasn't told about it. I certainly never heard of it.

Frankly, I can't make heads or tails of a lot of what Carlos says.
Well, its only bandwidth.
