Just a minor point - you should add the Greek resistance to those led by
Tito and Hoxha.
Agreed! They kicked the Italians around pretty heavy too! This was an
involuntary error.
I guess even Carlos would have to agree this was one of Stalin's less
stellar moments?
Actually, I take it as the begining of modern revisionism. In other words,
the bulk of the 30% incorrect Mao gives to Stalin.
Some Stalin worshipers in the anti-rev melieu actually sustain that all
those decisions were made by the revisionist clique led by Krushev over the
opposition of Stalin. Actually, I think Hari Kumar if I am not mistaken has
some writtings on that line.
Now, like with all conspiracy theories, I have problems believing that.
Stalin became quite revisionist after 1935. Which is why calling anti-revs
"stalinists" is as politically useful as calling, say, Hal Draper & Co.
"trotskyites". That we don't demonize the man as evil incarnate doesn't mean
we don't see glarring errors, or that the degeneration of the Soviet Union
into an empire wasn't well underway under Stalin's time. It also doesn't
mean we don't have a duty to defend and uphold the greatest anti-fascist war
machine ever seen, even on perspective.
I do have one point of contention with your history of the Greek resistance.
I believe the British were much more responsible of the crushing of the
resistance and postwar revolution than the USSR ever was. Rather than active
actors, the USSR's crime was one of omission, not commision. And this
created the basis for the Yugoslav Split.
