Hi,

Very true- the British (and American) mass murder of the Greek resistance to
Nazism was certainly of little concern to Stalin, who actively discouraged
attempts by Yugoslav partisans to come to its aid. But was this not in order
to convince the right-wing Imperialists of Churchill's Britain and Truman's
America, who were increasingly beating anti-Soviet war drums after 1945,
that the USSR was not intent on spreading world revolution and thus could,
and must, be allowed to retain control and influence in Eastern Europe and
the Balkans which it had recently, and at so much loss, liberated from Nazi
occupiers? I am not suggesting that Stalin's course was the right one or
that a whole nation's well-being ought to have been sacrificed on the altar
of realpolitik.
