Well, what does that mean?
Actually David, dear friend, it means that the Iraqis have a less bloody
insurgence, in terms of "national" casualties that the French did.
And and many of the French collaborated wholesale with the Germans to the
point of setting up the puppet but working Vichy government.
This goes to the heart of the questions you raise regarding the Iraqi
collaborators. I do get your point on close to half the Iraqis providing
some measure of defacto support to the "Vichy" Iraqi government meaning the
resistance should be cautious and in your defence, I provide the information
that the French resistance didn't liberate France. The USA, UK, Poland, Free
French and Canada did.
More relevant data would be finding the same ration in the Yugoslav/Albanian
theater, because Tito's and Hoxha's forces were the only resistances that
kicked nazis out on their own if not from the totality of their national
territory, at least from the majority of it. In other words, more
representative of a politically (not just militarly) successful resistance,
which if I am not mistaken is your point.
