I was in federal jail doing a stint for CD, there where two fellow PPs that
are engineers, and they were both betting on the same thing! One of them
gave then 2 hours, the other gave them a day. When we came out of jail the
one who said two hours got drunk for a year out of our pockets...

You ask around engineering circles, and to a man, they will claim thats what
they thought was going to happen. Ditto firefigthing.

One of the big problems with all of those that try to compare the WTC towers

As a matter of fact, the two particular engineers with us told us that even
without significant fire, the catastrophic loss of structural columns would
have lead to collapse, as too few colums were supporting too many untold
tons of heavy weigth. Fire just accelerated the process by weakning the
steel.

As to WTC 7, the building was on fire from debris for most of the day, and
extremely weakned by the collapse next to it of two massive towers. As a
matter of fact, several other buildings in the area were demolished in
controled demolitions, and others have tension cables permanently attached
to insure structural integrity. The hit buildings took was spread over a
wider area, but it was the hardest hit they could have possibly have
recieved. What surprises me is not the collapse of WTC 7, what surpises me
its that it took so long to collapse.

People seem to forget that the towers, when they collapsed, unleashed tons
upon tons upon tons of fast moving heavy debris against all structures next
to it. A lot of people got killed out of the buildings, or in basements etc
(like the fire chief and the chief chaplain of the FDNY).
