It has nothing to do with Nader and the Green Party being as bankrupt as
the Labor Party ever was?
What do you mean by bankrupt? That is an overused word in radical politics,
I'm afraid. Nader's 2000 campaign was a big breakthrough for the left. A
capacity crowd at the Felt Forum in NYC heard Nader deliver a sharp attack
on war, corporate greed and the 2-party system. No, he did not address the
question of how surplus value is generated, nor did he call for worker's
councils. But let's have a division of labor on these things. Sects like
the SWP, the Sparts and WSWS can cover the surplus value/worker's council
base while Nader and Camejo can cover the war and living wage base.
Damn Louis, as much as you try to shake out of it, you are still very much
a Party man...
Of course, I am pro-party. I am just opposed to ludicrous pretenses by
small groups that they are the nucleus of a revolutionary party.
In my opinion the great problem of the Green Party is the total lack of
any kind of cohesion at a national level. Yeah, Cobb might have stolen the
primary, but it shows just the kind of opportunist narcisist Nader is that
he didn't accept the result, and then vigorously campaing for Cobb, in
spite of himself, as a way to strengthen the Green Party. Instead, Nader
accepted with open hands the support of Republicans out to turn Nader into
a spoiler.
How can one vigorously campaign for Cobb? That is like trying to use a
sunflower to beat down a door.
And I am specially mesmerized at how can a socialist preffer the Green
Party over the SPUSA!!!
Because the Green Party has actually elected people to office who then go
about making a difference in real people's lives.
