[Marxism] Departures from the List

For some, the first reaction of part of the list to the decision of an
individual to voluntarily leave a voluntarily subscribed email list is
to blame others for not being nice enough to them.

Almost invariably, the ones who noisily announce that they're leaving do
so because their views are challenged or because they feel that they've
been somehow insulted because the rest of the list doesn't swallow what
they're saying hook-line-and-sinker. Why anyone would join a discussion
list and expect their views wouldn't be discussed is perplexing. Why
they would feel insulted because they can't persuade everyone is even
more perplexing.

Certainly, it's frustrating to make coherent, well-considered arguments
that the sky is blue only to have people responsing by saying "I know
someone named Sky and they're not blue..." yaddadda yaddadda yaddadda!
But that's what you're going to get on an email list, isn't it?

As to those who whine sentimentally about an individual's leaving the
list because they weren't treated with the expected level of deference,
I just have to wonder. Is there some reason such persons can't continue
to solicit the wonderful pearls of wisdom of the self-excluded without
the list?

Finally, some of us get viciously denounced as a right-wing social
democrats by some, while others froth at the mouth over my class treason
for my unwillingness to struggle for the currently Bolshevik line.
Certainly, there are plenty of real sectarians and plenty of real
social-democrats to explain both reactions.

As to my personal reactions to this particular case, I'm always willing
to discuss a nuanced argument about individual Democrats, but an
apologist for the Democratic Party per se with nothing new to offer is
hardly a loss. Jokers like Julio and David Cobb want to sit down to
lunch with Hannibal Lechter and blame us for turning their stomach.

Well, ain't life just a bitch for them!

Solidarity!
Mark L.
