Re: [Marxism] msnbc on anti-war protests...
The 45,000 is a police or "official" estimate that always lie over left wing
marches. Others reckoned it was about double that. (The police were caught
out by the enormous 2 million demondstration of March 2003. They gave
estimates of three quarters of a million but this one was so big that the
pollsters checked on the numbers and methodical bourgeois marketing firms
came up with the 2 million number).
All the left groups and their literature stands were there yesterday. Lots
of kids. A good number of Islamic enthisiasts but they were swamped by the
general numbers. One of those released without charge after three years in
Guantanamo spoke from the plinth in Trfalagar Square but I did not hear him
being so exhausted I peeled off for a tea and scones in the National gallery
cafeteria opposite the plinth.
