[Marxism] "The American Socialist" forecast Chávez in 1957

When explaining Peronism, in 1957, Bert Cochran wrote:

"The Peron regime has to be viewed as a stage in the battle of Latin
America for economic independence. It did not realize its proclaimed
goals, nor could any regime that left the oligarchic social structure
of the country undisturbed; but it could boast of some achievements.
The next attempt will start from this higher ground."

The lines above were confined to Argentina, which failed to comply
Cochran's expectations due to many reasons, too complex to sum up
here. Not that we did not try. During the early 70s we were near to
realize them. Our failure to do so splet our current destiny.

However, if one considers Latin America as what it is, a unified
historic-political field splintered by imperialism but with a complex
set of internal links, then this that Cochran wrote was a wonderful
prediction.

Certainly, Chávez is the clear continuation of Perón, on "higher
ground".
