I don't believe it. Bush & his buddies are not completely free cannon;
the ruling class still rules, and there is no indication whatever in the
main media that any preparation of the public for expansion of the war
is underway.

There is a more general point, which does not depend on crystal-ball
gazing as to the next step the u.s. is to take. A U.S. army is trapped
in the Mideast for the next few years. That means the basis will
continue to exist for building an anti-war movement (with a growing
anti-imperialist element) in the United States (and I hope in other
nations of the imperialist core).

_That_ is what we should focus our thought and action on, not on trying
to guess the tactics the u.s. will follow month by month, year by year,
as it struggles to escape the quagmire it is in.

What should be the politics of the anti-war movement? A far more
important question than the armchair-general question of will the u.s.
invade Syria or not. Whatever the U.S. does in the Mideast from now on,
under Bush or any other administration, can only provide the basis for
drawing more into the anti-war movement.
