You set out the options for US imperialism very well, but I have two
questions about it:
1. We have yet to see how the new Iraqi government behaves. Will it be
entirely quiescent? Will it come under pressure from below? Rice seems
to be smart enough to wait until this is clarified, some maybe Plan B
could go into operation in a month or so. Maybe the current developments
are just a trial run. But...
2. Where are the Americans going to get the troops to invade Syria? I
can imagine they could get the French to go into Lebanon, but I doubt
they will get them to go any further. The French would probably be quite
pleased at the prospect of pushing Syria out of Lebanon and leaving it
at that -- except that the Hezbollah have put on such a show of strength
they will probably shrink from even that now.
