One can restrict ones "Marxism" to
socioeconomic minutiae or to antiAmerican vituperation. Or one
can recognize the fact that Osama bin Laden is to George Bush jr.
as Marinus van der Lubbe was to Adolf Hitler.

This has to be the single best analogy I have heard so far. And I missed it!

Still, it is a false dichotomy. It is apple and oranges. Marxism recognizes
that who plays the role Osama is playing is much less important that what
that role accomplishes.

I think some of the problems certain Marxists have with speculative barter
on events in that they have the potential, or indeed are, to mystify and
cloud questions. Being a marxist myself, or at least a humble student of
marxism (how's that for shortcoursespeak, David? hehehe), I do understand
these concerns. Yet, come on! Speculating is fun!
