can anyone recommend some good data on the history of this proposition?

i had been under the impression that kuwait once was part of some version of
iraq, and that british imperialist split them off in a typical roman divide et
impera maneuver--typical ethnogenesis, even.

IIRC, the call amongst the iraqi state to "reclaim the lost 19th province,"
or so, was popular even in the regime of general qassem prior to his ouster by
the CIA. what can be made of this?
