RE: [Marxism] On. Hunter Thompson, Susie Bright, and Nina Hartley (Redone for Text Format)

I tend to agree with Anthony's objection to the coupling of Susie
Bright's views of HST and her (and Nina Harley's) sex radicalism. Over
recent decades, people in the sex industry have begun to convey a great
deal of information about their views and experience.

I had occasion not that long ago to dig around a bit in the history of
prostitution in the nineteenth century and was fairly surprised at both
the paucity and quality of the much of the material. Pretty much, we
have the accounts of social workers, etc. who see prostitutes simply as
victims, and they provide considerable anecdotal evidence on the
subject.

However, Nickie Robert's book WHORES IN HISTORY provided a real
eye-opener. An English sex worker, she makes a very persuasive argument
that the anecdotal material involves women dependent on drugs or
alcohol, and that, more often than not, women in the business are their
own bosses and can have considerable control over their work situation.

I'm sure we all hope she's right and, I suspect, she's in a better
position to know than most commentators from the outside.

Solidarity!
