This statement tells me either this was a poorly researched article or
you are being dishonest. He moved their in the 70's and fought it
becoming a "a resort town favored by the super-rich." every step of
the way.
It weakens everything else you say when I see such an example of a
dishonest/ignorant statement.
Frankly, I don't care if he started living in Aspen in 1950. By the 1980s,
it had become what it is today--a venue often featured on Entertainment
Tonight and the backdrop of the memorable "Dumb and Dumber." Hunter
Thompson had become a *celebrity* by this point and loved sitting on the
sofa next to David Letterman (he was too cool for Leno.) If he had any
integrity, he would have moved to New Paltz or Park Slope and dumped the
Letterman show like Harvey Pekar did.
