RE: [Marxism] Diagnosing the Green Party
Running slightly behind that "safe state strategy" as nonsense has to be
the persistent arguments for "fusion" from the Fulani group in NYC.
They deserve full credit for not selling out for the pathetic price that
bought Cobb...but "fusion" means leaving that door open for just that.
In historic terms, fusion has been the main vehicle for third party
self-destruction.
I certainly share all the hopes for a successful bid for power within
the party, but this is almost impossible, as the party doesn't exist in
many places, except on paper. Basically, the party exists in New York,
California, and a few scattered communities between. The preference of
the Green Party for "decentralized" and "democratic" "grass roots"
organizations allowed all sorts of silliness with no oversight. That's
how Cobb waltzed to the nomination.
It's simply essential that the Green Party establish clear and
democratic standards of membership and vest control of the party in the
hands of that membership. If that's not done, the present party will
disintegrate and something else will have to take up that niche in the
political ecology.
Solidarity!
