Re: [Marxism] Antiwar "leaders" can't break reformist habits
I was hoping Sharon's article would say something about what actually happened
at the UFPJ assembly last weekend. Were national marches called for the fall
and/or spring?

"Do you think that the United States should maintain its current troop
level in Iraq to help secure peace and stability, or should the United
States now reduce its number of troops since the election has been held?"
Maintain Level: 41%
Reduce Level: 50%
Depends/Some of Both (vol.) 4%
Unsure 5%

Generally speaking, I am leery of polls. For example, Charles DeGaulle was
receiving high marks just before the May-June events of 1968. Polling tends
to pose questions in terms that favor the ruling class. All that being
said, it is inescapable that a mounting contradiction exists between the
majority desire of the American people to reduce the level of troops and
the objective need to "stay the course". The kissy-face, joint appearance
of Hillary Clinton and John McCain on "Meet the Press" is ample evidence of
this.
Given this contradiction, it is incumbent on the movement to RAISE HELL.
The problem is that the leadership as currently constituted has grown fat
and lazy on nonprofit sinecures. Somebody has to come along and throw a
dynamite stick into this logjam. It was the students in the 1960s and will
be so now, I think.
