[Marxism] Re: A question about George Orwell
I have a good memory for things that I have participated in and things
that I have read. However, after so many years, the way that my mind
combines them and just when and in what order events occurred is
suspect.
The elements in the essay that I am looking for are:
(1) It was a skillful essay criticizing the notion that totalitarian
regimes are stronger than democratic ones.
(2) The person writing the essay could have been Orwell or MacDonald. I
don't believe that it was a member of an orthodox party. It was too
literary. Philip Rahv would be another candidate as author.
(3) I am not sure who was being criticized. Perhaps it was James
Burnham and not Orwell. But I don't think that it was MacDonald. My
impression is that he was too much of an optimist for that position.
