Re: [Marxism] It's the oil, stupid!

There was a time when such an article coming out of "Russian" might been
titled "It's Capitalism, stupid".

In all the protests against the war and to bring the troops home, the
denounciation of capitalism and the call for worker communism isn't
being made.

Indeed, the slogans used are dangerously ambiguous.

They are generally and specifically dangerous.

Generally dangerous since they express protest at the unacceptable face
of capitalism, implying that it, capitalism, has its finer side.

These protests don't point the finger fair and square at capitalism.

Indeed the use of the word imperialism risks to become either de-coupled
from capitalism on the one hand and on the other hand, just be seen as
the unacceptable face of a supposedly otherwise benign capitalism.

The slogan are specifically ambigous.

Stop the War! "Yes the resistance should stop fighting..."

Bring the troops home! "Yes, train the Iraqi police, send in the UN...."

We should be pointing out that this a conflict between baathist,
islamists (whether mediaevalists or conservatives) and imperialists.

Each are as loathsome as the others and none of them offer hope to the
aspirations of the majority of Iraqi people - the toilers.

They are capitalists and part of the capitalist system; each in its
fashion, reflecting their development.

The WCP-I is right to work on the ground with workers, unions and
women's rights and to fight through demonstrations, strikes etc. for a
socialist Iraq.

We in the West must be clear and transparent about what we are for and
not merely what we are against.

Put individual issues in the capitalist context. Show the marxist solution.

As Marxists, we are in danger of not seeing the forest for the trees.

What hope then is there for the backward worker?

What hope then is there for marxism?

When Bush is around, then proudly, blazonly and brazenly carry banners
proclaiming socialism and communism.

Let Bush attack and ridicule them.

But among those who hear him doing so, there will be not a few whose
thoughts will turn to those slogans.

How can people assimilate the ideas of communism if these ideas are
never sported, even by those who understand and support them?

Communism is not a dirty secret - but something to be announced, shouted
about.

Let's be proud and not hide behind the bourgoise banners about stopping
the war and bringing the troops home.

Let's explain, instead of mumbling - and show that the 21st century
cannot remain bogged down in the politics of the 20th century including
the megalomaniacal mutterings of yet another would be world conqueror.

Workers of the world unite, you have nothing but your chains to lose !

(they've already plundered you social security, pensions and rights)

fraternally

Michael
