[Marxism] "my mission as universal shepherd of the Christian people"
"my mission as universal shepherd of the Christian people"
--from my earlier post on the Pope.
I don't know whether we should sneer at Pope John Paul's chutzpah or
protest that it leaves so many of us out.
I once raised my hand when a high school social science teacher asked
how many of us were Christians. It was very embarrassing when the
teacher pointed out that as an avowed atheist I wasn't a Christian. I
had thought that he was asking something like whether we were
Americans.
It was my first feeling of alienation. However, since I had a good
singing voice, a member of our school chorus asked me to join his
church's choir. I was finally accepted!
Sometimes after choir practice, some of us would steal apples from the
nearby groves and serenade teachers with:
I don't want a Ford V-8
I want a girl that I can date
I don't want an Oldsmobile
I want a girl that I can feel
I don't want a Chevy Truck
I want a girl that I can fuck
Tra la la boom de-ay
Have you had yours today
I had mine yesterday
Tra la la boom de-ay
(a total lie, except the desire)
Brian Shannon
