[Marxism] "Human pain is precious, John Paul said,"
"Your suffering is never useless, dear sick ones," said the message
from the Pope, who was spending his first full day at the Vatican after
recovering from the flu and breathing problems that required 10 days in
hospital.
Human pain is precious, John Paul said, because it has a mysterious
link to Christ's trial on the cross and his resurrection.
"For that reason the Pope counts deeply on the importance of your
prayers and your suffering," he said. "Offer them up to the church and
to the world, offer them also for me and for my mission as universal
shepherd of the Christian people."

Here are two classic hymns in the spirit of Pope John Paul:
IN THE SWEET BYE AND BYE
Music by Joseph P. Webster (1819-1875)
Lyrics by Sanford F. Bennett (1836-1898)
There's a land that is fairer than day
And by faith we can see it afar,
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.
(chorus)
In the sweet bye and bye
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet bye and bye,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blest;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more -
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest. (repeat chorus)
To our bountiful Father above
We will offer our tribute of praise,
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days. (repeat chorus)
I BELIEVE JESUS SAVES
Lyrics by Francis Bottome (1823-1894)
Let us sing of his love once again,
Of the love that can never decay,
Of the blood of the Lamb who was slain,
Till we praise him again in that day.
(Chorus)
I believe Jesus saves,
And his blood makes me whiter than snow.
I believe Jesus saves,
And his blood makes me whiter than snow.
There is cleansing and healing for all
Who will wash in the life-giving flood;
There is perfect deliverance and joy
To be had in this world through the blood. (repeat chorus)
Even now while we taste of his love,
We are filled with delight through his name;
But what will it be when above
We shall join in the song of the Lamb! (repeat chorus)
Then we'll march in his name, till we come
At his bidding to cease from the fight;
And our Saviour shall welcome us home
To the mansions of glory and light. (repeat chorus)
So with banners unfurled to the breeze,
Our motto will holiness be,
Till the crown from his hand we shall seize,
And the King in his glory we see. (repeat chorus)

And here is "The Preacher and the Slave" by Joe Hill.
Long haired preachers come out ev'ry night,
Try to tell you what's wrong and what's right;
But when asked, how 'bout something to eat, (Let us eat)
They will answer with voices so sweet; (Oh so sweet)
You will eat, (You will eat)
Bye and bye, (Bye and bye) in that glorious land above the sky;
(way up high)
work and pray, (work and pray) live on hay, (Live on hay)
you'll get pie in the sky when you die. (That's a lie)
And the starvation army they play,
And they sing and they clap and they pray.
Till they get all your coin on the drum,
Then they'll tell you when you're on the bum:
-Chorus-
Holy Rollers and Jumpers come out,
And they holler, they jump and they shout
"Give your money to Jesus," they say,
"He will cure all diseases today."
-Chorus-
If you fight hard for children and wife-
Try to get something good in this life-
You're a sinner and bad man, they tell,
When you die you will sure go to hell.
-Chorus-
Workingmen of all countries unite,
Side by side we for freedom will fight!
When the world and its wealth we have gained,
To the grafters we'll sing this refrain:
-Final Chorus-
You will eat, bye and bye,
When you've learned how to cook and to fry.
Chop some wood, 'twill do you good,
And you'll eat in the sweet bye and bye.

My father (at one time also a wobbly, but he never filled in the
details) used to recite these two dittys:
I am Jesus' little lamb
Yes by Jesus Christ I am
He will wash me white as snow
Damn dirty job for Jesus
(there was a pause before the last line; then he hit the first word
hard)
Now I lay me down to sleep
While all around me bedbugs creep
If they bite before I wake
I pray to God their jaws will break
