To Bob Gould:

I only started this topic seeking empirical evidence of the number of
people killed due to Stalin's purges.

George Kennan, US diplomat and historian under Truman etc. gave his
estimates of "tens of thousands" in the purges and gulags; Austen Murphy
in his book, Triumph of Evil stated around one million; and Robert
Conquest, including Eric Margolis and other "cottage industries" stated
30 million.

*If there is "new evidence" significantly greater than a million please
supply it. **Polemics, innuendo and* *non sequiturs, add nothing to the
discussion except to discredit the writer.
As to the outrages of Stalinism – keep that in perspective with
capitalism in which more than a 100 million deaths are caused annually
due to the system where vested interests prevail over humanity. *
