Re: [Marxism] Why is there no American defense committee for the Guant anamo prisoners?

You might be right. I have a hazy recollection of many emails from many
organizations about Guantanamo cases and about immigrants of many nationalities
victimized in a hundred ways short of imprisonment (and almost inevitable abuse
and torture); but I'm blanking out on whether a mass civil liberties defense
coalition was ever formed. Maybe it wasn't -- but sure should be.

CCR should be asked about this.

If it hasn't been formed yet I suspect it's because movement types are afraid
of being baited as pro-terrorist, whereas letting groups like CCR handle it
leaves it in the legal, constitutional rights sphere and is less scary.

But that's not good enough.

Before this latest post, Walter Lippmann listed a British organization

That organization's site has links to other groups involved in
defending the Guantanamo prisoners. However, they are either very
worthwhile general organizations that defend them as part of a broader
constituency or narrower religious or nation-based organizations, such
as the exemplary Kuwait organization. There appears to be no
independent U.S. Guantanamo defense organization.

Am I right? And can anything be done about it?
