[Marxism] Iraq exile vote runs into trouble
This is from the BBC. Link below but there's really no more info there.
Last night's Australian TV reported this problem specifically in Australia.
Though one factor here is that there are a lot of Iraqis in Perth (west
coast) three thousand miles from the nearest polling stations in Melbourne
and Sydney and ... Shepparton. Where's that? It's a country town not too
far from Melbourne, with a lot of Iraqis -- they lobbied successfully for
their own polling station but the major city of Perth missed out.
Iraq exile vote runs into trouble
Iraqis living abroad are being given more time to register in the country's
election because of a low turnout.
The International Organization for Migration, which is organising voting in
14 countries, said registration would be extended for two days.
By Thursday, the fourth day of registration, fewer than one in 10 Iraqis
had registered abroad, out of more than a million eligible voters.
SNIP
Registration for Iraqi exiles and expatriates had been due to end on
Sunday, but is now being extended until Tuesday.
The IOM said registration rules were also being eased. An Iraqi passport
will now be accepted as identification, instead of the two documents
demanded previously.
