Besides what's already been suggested, those interested may want to
leaf through the following works:

R. Graham, Independence in Latin America: a comparative approach
J. Lynch, The South American revolutions [1808-1826]
D. Bushnell & N. Macaulay, The emergence of Latin America in the 19th
century
B. Burns, The poverty of progress. Latin America in the 19th century
S. Voss, Latin America in the middle period, 1750-1929
J.L. Salcedo-Bastardo, Bolívar: a continent and its destiny

Whether some of these studies are still in print; however, a search of
the used-text market likely as not will track down copies of those that
have wound up o-o-p. Finally, perhaps it's worth noting that Halperin-
Donghi, whose major study of contemporary Latin American history is
mentioned in the referenced posting, many years ago published a brief
gloss of that far longer, much denser work under the title, The
aftermath of revolution in Latin America. Despite the book's age, those
who succeed in ferreting out a copy will find that it remains an
instructive read.
