[Marxism] Twenty-one percent claimed no religious affiliation [September 2004].
Comment:
Official statistics record that 21 percent of the Jamaican population declared
that they have no religious affiliation.
To break it down further, this means that 557130 Jamaicans, out of a population
of 2,653,000, are not religious animals.
And when those declaring that their religion is an unknown "other" (234198
persons) are added to this total we arrive at another interesting figure.
29.81 percent of Jamaicans have no affiliation to organized religion. That
means that 791,328 out of a population of 2,653,000 do not subscribe to
organized religion. ( Here is an interesting aside. This figure, 791, 328, is
more that the total that voted for the leading political parties all together.
In the February 2002 General Elections held in Jamaica 734,628 persons voted).
This, in my estimation, makes Jamaica one of the most enlightened populations
on the planet.
Perhaps more important than anything else, these statistics disproves the
notion that the Jamaican proletariat are not receptive to scientific ideas. It
shows that, contrary to the opinion of some 'socialist thinkers,' Jamaican
workers are supremely ready to take their place in the epic struggle against
global Capital. To put it plainly, the Jamaican proletariat is ready for the
social revolution!
The excerpt on religious demography follows.
Respect,
Aduku
