Yeah, academic values are to values what Christian rock is to rock.
What you're talking about has nothing to do with institutions and
everything to do with people.

That said, I think you may well be too hard to Juan Cole.  Afghanistan
simply wasn't the same situation as Iraq.  And American radicals will
always have to explain why US policy isn't good for the Americans we are
addressing.  That doesn't mean we're trying to get hired by the Bush
administration.
